The quality of the scan this time turned out bad but the original is way better. I wanted to draw something different with a new allure, I worked more on the expression than on my skills. It was quite a challenge since I usually focus more on the perfection of the lines and the tecnique. Turned out good I guess.

For my portraits I really love drawing eyes and the wrinkles on the lips, I might just make some studies on them just to focus on the different shapes and colors.

This half-year was really satisfying… 5000 views on my blog since January! Thank you so much for your interest towards my blog. I’m glad that I am able to share my thoughts with all of you so openly without any barrier. I’m the awkward kind of person around people but since I started this journey of mine on WordPress I can sense definitely an improvement on my behaviour.

I know my writing skills can be improved too this is why I try to write about many different topics.I’m working on something right now, a new project, and I want to share it with you as soon as possible. In the following weeks you will be updated surely.

I feel really thankful that you follow me in my simple life. Hugs from a smiling italian woman (still a girl at heart)!

In my point of view knowledge is the most important thing for a human being. Without it we couldn’t do all kinds of things and we would spend our lives as the people who inhabitant thousands of years ago in caves and without fire. Prometheus is the one that in the greek mythology brought the “fire” to humans as a god who took pity of the human kind. He was severely punished because “fire” symbolized the”knowledge” that was only meant to be understood between gods.

Old books

Studying, researching and reading are the first steps to understand new things and as I am myself a huge bookworm I know it through experience. Watching documentaries is another must but the sensation of old paper is really far more enchanting.

I really am entranced by the scent of antique books. I personally own a book that is not really old, is it close to a century, but I like the feeling of it. My dream is to have a room completely filled on the four walls with bookshelves from the floor to the ceiling and a nice writing desk in the middle of it, with a chaise longue and a soft turkish carpet to minimize the sound of footsteps.

I am italian and in the eye of the world my country holds the best amount of history background. We really had a lot of interesting periods: The Roman Empire, the Rinascimento… Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello, Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca… Popes, politicians and the most beautiful cities in the world: Venezia, Firenze, Roma, Milano… We really have a lot to make ourselves proud.

Even so nowadays in Europe we are seen as the most dumb nation of all. I don’t think so… Certainly we don’t hold the first place in school education and we have so many flaws… but we are still here. We hold our pride as a friendly nation that even in difficult times can smile and make others feeling appreciated.

We are in war, Europe is in war. This is known and it scares me so much. But seeing that in the middle east there are purposely destructions of important archeological sites, people murdered without any concern for age and gender only because they are of different religion and entire populations directed in Greece and here in Italy to save themselves from the war is terrifying. I don’t know how things will turn out in the future, but I can sense the difference in my country.

Knowledge should make us think before acting, even so we are against terribly ignorant people who knows only how to fight and make people cry. This is not knowledge it is war. Ignorance is the uglier thing in the whole world because without knowing things people act on impulses and following orders given from psychopaths. This is so wrong, so terribly wrong.

I really wish for my country and for the rest of the world to understand the importance of culture. We need to develop our minds towards the right paths for our future and for others too.

I am really greatful to the film that came out this month about the life and importance of the britain woman Gertrude Margareth Lowthian Bell during the last breaths of the ottoman Empire.

I love when films depict characters and history in this manner, making people unable to stop searching for more informations after the end of the film. Of course films are bound to be slightly romanticize to be of some liking to the viewers but even so I liked this film and the photography is just amazing…

We have plenty clever women throughout history but to be so essential in so many aspects of different subjects: archeology, history, politics and literature is just a great example of what a woman birth in the nineteenth century could give to the world. Being a spy or not is not as great as the importance of her travelling journals in my opinion. Being in places where a woman alone could not be, or more, where a european woman never visited before, always between deserts and oasis, with people of another culture, just to study them and report things as a scientist would.

In my opinion she’s on the same level of anthropologists and ethnologists of her time in Great Britain that came to realize that a study of the tribes are meant to be done on place and not sitting in a chair looking at others journals and essays… She wanted to meet beduins and Drusi to study them and comprehend their points of view.

She graduated from Oxford, full marks, with a degree in History, just like me, and has always been a passionate linguist who could speak fluently so many languages.

I really look upon her as a role model, like a far away star to always try to reach.

I think being a woman in that particular period of time would be hard to picture in our minds as women right now has a lot of prerogatives and we are slowly coming close to gender equality. But just imagine the hardships she was put through… she tried her best to just break off the laces that kept her tied down to all the mundane rules expected from a woman of her standing in Great Britain and even in northern Africa.

I really would recommend for you to see the film in which Nicole Kidman has the main role of Gertrude. Apart from your personal opinion on the actors just look through the screen and let your mind wonder in amazement.

I would like to be like her one day… A traveller just for herself, wandering through places where people don’t know you and you can experience for the first time new things. Keeping a journal and in the old days just reading those pages with a feeling of melancholy, knowing you are above all with your knowledge. I really would like to.

So much feelings, so much greatness. Every time I listen to this piece I fall into the ascending slow rithm. It’s like a magic, just like letting my body go with the flow, letting it become one with the musical notes.

Such emotions are able to come alive without any effort, without being asked. Music is one of the pleasures humans and animals both enjoy and this is one of the causes it is so precious.

Classical music is a must for me. Everytime I listen to it I feel in peace, suddenly feeling better.

Not everyone can feel this happiness because we all have different tastes and the culture we grew up in has great influence in what we might perceive as beautiful or distasteful.

Even so I think classical music must be taken as something we look upon as a model, something we truly enjoy no matter our believes and thoughs.

Maurice Ravel wrote this piece “Bolero” in 1928 as a music piece commissioned from a russian ballerina, and it is meant to be danced sensually on a table to attract the men slowly coming closer to her.  This is why you can feel the “crescendo” in the music and the intensity becoming every turn much higher.

Even though Ravel thought of this piece as one of his least important pieces for me it is his best one. I really am thankful to him for creating such beautiful music.

December 14th is gonna be our anniversary and for the occasion, as I mentioned some posts ago, we are gonna travel to a beautiful city. I was searching through the net for some deals in Europe and I was really sure to go visit Barcelona, but instead… we are going to Venice!

Since I am italian and not a halfie or someone who just lived abroad for her entire life, it’s really a shame I couldn’t visit yet one of the most famous italian cities. Venice is renowned for being a romantic location abroad, where every year there’s a famous film festival. In an american point of view is a place for love, best location for vips marriage or a city to visit once in a lifetime but for an italian is simply history and art.

Venice for me is not a romantic city but a place where I can see beautiful architectures, art and discover the history behind it. Since Venice is basically an artificial island made of  100 small islands linked and supported together by wood poles planted in the mud centuries ago, I wanted to visit it to discover new things to know.

Venice is an essential part of our history: once one of the maritime republic, was a really prosperous city that linked the East Europe (Russia, Turkey and the other countries on the Mediterranean Sea) with the West through Italy, transporting merchants and products by ships even before Marco Polo appeared (13th century).

I will visit Murano and the glass makers, the famous “bridges”, piazza S.Marco and the orthodox cemetery, of course there’s gonna be  our anniversary celebration but if I have to say the truth we’re more excited by the possibility to  see Venice!

I’m already preparing everything I’ll need:  buying a new and bigger trolley, a warmer jacket along with clothes since we are gonna spend most of our time outside site-seeing, train tickets and boat tickets and gifts for his family that we are gonna go visit after Venice.  Christmas and maybe New year are with my in-laws so I will be back in January.

Kisses and always enjoy travelling! Bye ❤

As you may already know looking through my archive and reviews, I’m a huge fan of Korean products and their fashion. (Hera, Etude House, Ryeo and korean brands clothes on YESSTYLE) I watch korean dramas too and even though I don’t speak a single word of korean I can manage to understand their culture and traditions.

Everyday I look through the net searching for new trends and some years ago I happened to notice a really gorgeous self-made makeup artist: Park Hye Min aka Pony’s Beauty on Youtube. She’s beautiful and so talented! She even published books (sold in all Asia) on how to reproduce her numerous makeups and she recently released, as a collaboration, a memebox sold out in less than an hour.

This is the advertising for the memebox, the model is herself:

She already had a beauty line under her name but she made the big change going international. She was known in all Asia as a past Ullzzang, active Youtuber and model (search for Gabalmania, Kitsch Island…) but now she reached US too. Go girl! I’m a big fan of hers so I’m really happy.

Curios about her age/ her background/ her boyfriend? On the net is difficult to find infos about her life and the only thing we know for sure, as it was once said from her in a Q&A video is that she has been in a relationship with her boyfriend for 8 years. Her boyfriend on INSTAGRAM is called vivus_vici search for him or through her tags. PONY’s age is unknown to the public, she never stated it before, even so I think she is around 28-32 years and to be so young and good at what she does for a living is pretty amazing. She has been on the net for so many years as a self-made makeup artist on Youtube and before that on her blog. Because she’s the ambassador for so many famous international brands we can see her often on Instagram visiting the US, London, Paris and other asian countries. She’s the makeup artist of the beautiful korean singer CL.
